Brandon Beach Supports Governor Deal’s Emergency Rule
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Brandon Beach
Today Brandon Beach, candidate for State Senate praised the Governor and State Pharmacy Board for enacting an emergency rule that will designate new synthetic marijuana as Schedule 1 substances under the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.
During the 2012 session SB 370 which banned the sale and manufacture of synthetic marijuana in Georgia was passed and signed into law by the Governor. The use of synthetic marijuana has resulted in the deaths of many teens and young adults in Georgia and across the country most notably Chase Burnett from Fayette County. After the passage of SB 370, manufacturers of this product moved quickly to alter the formula, so it could be sold outside the confines of the law. Today’s action by the State Pharmacy Board, will allow law enforcement agencies to enforce the ban on these new products and remove them from shelves out of reach.
Beach said, “I will work with law enforcement agencies in North Fulton, Cherokee and across the State to ensure that illegal drugs and knock off drugs like synthetic marijuana are not available in Georgia.”
